Nice To Meet You | Fat Cat Productions

Yay! Another new series for our blog! Jen and I have the awesome honor of working with tons of amazing vendors in the wedding industry. From florists to planners, other photographers, videographers, DJs, etc, it always amazes me the level of talent that we come into contact with at our weddings. What can we say, our clients have great taste in vendors! ; ) With this in mind, we wanted to start featuring different vendors from all areas of the wedding industry as a way to share some of our favorite people with you all!

Our first “Nice To Meet You” vendor spotlight is with the absolutely amazing Amanda from Fat Cat Productions. We have had the honor of not only working with Amanda at weddings as a colleague, but Amanda was also one of our wedding clients last year! (You can check out her perfect wedding HERE). So, not only is she an awesome DJ, but she also understands what it feels like to be a bride going through the vendor selection process, and also understands just how important good music and a good flow is to a wedding reception!

I had the pleasure of doing new promotional headshots for Amanda this past weekend, and as always, she was a joy to work with. She has such great ideas, an infectious and fun personality, and yeah, she’s also drop dead gorgeous to boot. I’ve now seen Amanda with platinum blonde, brown, dark brown and red hair and she somehow looks amazing every way! Makes me so jealous! Okay enough of my babbling… everyone, meet Amanda!

1) The What Where When How and Why!  WHEN did you become a DJ?

10 years ago. Wow. It still feels weird to say I have been doing it that long.

HOW did you become a DJ?

I got a part time job at a local radio station when I was in high school. A DJ there quickly became a mentor to me and he also was a mobile DJ. He asked me to tag along one gig and rest was history. I was hooked.

WHY are you a DJ?

I honestly ask myself this all the time! HAHA! People do not believe me when I tell them this is what I do. The truth of it is that it is a fun job and I get to meet amazing people who just want to have a great event!

WHAT is your favorite part about being a DJ?

As cliché as it sounds, my favorite part is the music. Music is something that means so much to me and there are few things in this world that can speak to so many people in such different ways. It is a pretty awesome thing when a room full of people can just get together and have a great time dancing. I love being the person to play the music that makes them excited the same way I get excited.

WHERE do you hope to see your business go in three years?

I would love to expand and add on a few other female DJs. It would be cool to have a team of lovely ladies who have the same ideas and passion for music! Because I do a lot of weddings, I have had a dream to organize a yearly bridal tour that focuses on affordable wedding vendors, DIY details, and off beat themes.  The idea that an awesome wedding cant also be an affordable wedding still amazes me. I also would LOVE to start an online radio station. My dreams are what keep me going. I want to do so much.

2) Three words that describe your business- GO!

Fun! Flexible! Unique!

3) What are some things you love seeing photographers do that make them great to work with?

I love this question! Biggest thing at weddings is working with the other vendors, not against them! I try to make sure I am on the same page with the photographer timewise so we can make the event run as smooth as possible. If you don’t talk to the photographer, or vise versa, then you could be announcing the Father/Daughter dance when the photographer snuck the bride and groom away for a few more pictures! AGH! Great communication is the best attribute! I also love when I look over at the photographers and they are dancing or singing….it makes me smile and realize they are having just as good of a time.

4) What do you feel has been the best marketing tool for you? (i.e. Word of Mouth, Bridal Shows, Advertising, Features, etc)

I had tried to advertise in a few things before but never stayed with it. My biggest thing is word of mouth! How flattering is it when a new client is referred from an old client! I just love it. About 9 months ago I started building up my online presence and it has paid off. Brides are turning to the internet more and more so you have to be there! My next thing will be a bridal show so fingers crossed!

5) Quick! Cookies or Cupcakes!

Depends if I can eat the cookies before they are baked…if not then Funfetti cupcakes!
